Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
राजा भवति भूयिष्ठमिहाम्बाया निवेशने ।
तमहं नाद्य पश्यामि द्रष्टुमिच्छन्निहागतः ॥२-७२-१२॥
rājā bhavati bhūyiṣṭhamihāmbāyā niveśane |
tamahaṃ nādya paśyāmi draṣṭumicchannihāgataḥ ॥2-72-12॥
Translation
"The King is mostly found here in Mother's residence. I came here wishing to see him, but I do not see him today."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"महाराज अधिकतर माता (आप) के ही महल में रहते हैं। मैं उन्हीं के दर्शन की इच्छा से यहाँ आया हूँ, किन्तु आज मैं उन्हें यहाँ नहीं देख रहा हूँ।"
English Commentary
This verse is laden with tragic irony. Bharata states a known fact: rājā bhavati bhūyiṣṭham iha (The King is mostly here). He came to Kaikeyi's palace specifically because it was the most likely place to find Dasharatha. He admits he came draṣṭum icchan (desiring to see him). The tragedy lies in the fact that the King's attachment to this very "residence of the mother" (ambāyā niveśane) was the stage for the drama that led to his death. Bharata is looking for his father in the exact place where the King was emotionally destroyed, unaware that the person he is speaking to (his mother) is the architect of that destruction.

यह श्लोक भरत की मासूमियत और त्रासदी की गहराई दोनों को उजागर करता है। 'भूयिष्ठमिह' (अधिकतर यहीं) कहकर भरत उस सत्य को स्वीकार करते हैं कि दशरथ कैकेयी से सर्वाधिक प्रेम करते थे। भरत का यहाँ आना संयोग नहीं था, बल्कि एक सुविचारित निर्णय था क्योंकि उन्हें विश्वास था कि पिता यहीं मिलेंगे। 'द्रष्टुमिच्छन्निहागतः' (देखने की इच्छा से यहाँ आया) - यह वाक्य हृदयविदारक है क्योंकि पाठक जानता है कि दशरथ की मृत्यु इसी महल में, कैकेयी द्वारा वर मांगने के कारण हुई वियोग से हुई है। भरत उसी स्थान पर पिता को खोज रहे हैं जहाँ उनका अंत निश्चित हुआ था।
