पितुर्ग्रहीष्ये चरणौ तन्ममाख्याहि पृच्छतात् ।
आहोस्विदम्व ज्येष्ठायाः कौसल्याया निवेशने ॥२-७२-१३॥
piturgrahīṣye caraṇau tanmamākhyāhi pṛcchataḥ |
āhosvidamba jyeṣṭhāyāḥ kausalyāyā niveśane ॥2-72-13॥
Translation
"I wish to touch my father's feet. As I ask, please tell me (where he is). Is he perhaps in the residence of the eldest mother, Kausalya?"

"मैं पिता (महाराज) के चरण स्पर्श करना चाहता हूँ। मेरे पूछने पर आप मुझे बताइये (कि वे कहाँ हैं)। क्या वे सबसे बड़ी माता कौसल्या के भवन में हैं?"
English Commentary
Bharata’s anxiety peaks as he fails to find the King in Kaikeyi’s chambers. However, holding onto hope, he surmises that Dasharatha must be with the Queen consort, Kausalya. His primary desire remains simple and pious: pitur grahīṣye caraṇau (I shall clasp/touch my father's feet). This reflects his deep reverence; before any discussion of politics or travel, he seeks the physical contact of blessing. The specific mention of Kausalya's residence highlights the royal family dynamics; seeing the King there would be the most logical alternative. Bharata is frantically trying to locate the physical presence of his father, unaware that the King has left the physical realm entirely.

भरत की व्यग्रता अब चरम पर है। पिता का अपने कक्ष में न होना उन्हें विचलित कर रहा है, किन्तु वे आशा नहीं छोड़ते। वे अनुमान लगाते हैं कि यदि महाराज यहाँ नहीं हैं, तो वे अवश्य 'ज्येष्ठायाः' (सबसे बड़ी) रानी कौसल्याके महल में होंगे। 'पितुर्ग्रहीष्ये चरणौ' (पिता के चरण पकड़ना/स्पर्श करना) उनकी प्राथमिकता है; वे राज्य, धन या सत्ता के विषय में नहीं, केवल पिता के आशीर्वाद के विषय में सोच रहे हैं। भरत का यह प्रश्न इस बात का प्रमाण है कि दशरथ का कौसल्या के प्रति सम्मान और आना-जाना बना रहता था, और यह एक स्वाभाविक दूसरा विकल्प था। भरत, अनजाने में ही सही, उस स्थान का नाम ले रहे हैं जहाँ राम (कौसल्या के पुत्र) का वियोग सबसे अधिक खला था।
