ततः शोकेन संवीतः पितुर्मरणदुःखितः ।
विललाप महातेजा भ्रान्ताकुलितचेतनः ॥२-७२-१८॥
tataḥ śokena saṃvītaḥ piturmaraṇaduḥkhitaḥ |
vilalāpa mahātejā bhrāntākulitacetanaḥ ॥2-72-18॥
Translation
Then, enveloped in grief and pained by his father's death, the highly radiant Bharata, his mind confused and agitated, began to lament.

तदनन्तर शोक से घिरे हुए और पिता के मरण से दुःखी, महातेजस्वी भरत व्याकुल और भ्रमित चित्त होकर विलाप करने लगे।
English Commentary
This verse describes the psychological aftermath of the shock. Bharata is śokena saṃvītaḥ (enveloped/wrapped in grief). His mental state is described as bhrāntākulitacetanaḥ (mind confused and agitated). He is disoriented, unable to process the reality fully. Despite being mahātejā (of great brilliance/splendor), he resorts to vilalāpa (lamentation). This humanizes the epic hero; his radiance does not shield him from the darkness of grief. The confusion likely stems not just from the death, but the abrupt and solitary manner in which he is receiving the news, without the comforting presence of the rest of the family.

मानसिक आघात का प्रभाव अब भरत की चेतना पर दिखाई दे रहा है। वे 'भ्रान्ताकुलितचेतनः' (भ्रमित और व्याकुल चित्त वाले) हो गए हैं। अचानक मिली सूचना ने उनके मानसिक संतुलन को हिला दिया है। 'शोकेन संवीतः' (शोक से पूरी तरह ढके/घिरे हुए) - यह दर्शाता है कि अब उनके पास कोई अन्य विचार नहीं है, केवल दुःख ही शेष है। 'महातेजा' (महातेजस्वी) होने के बावजूद, वे एक सामान्य मनुष्य की भांति 'विललाप' (विलाप/रोदन) करने लगे। यह श्लोक स्वीकार करता है कि महानता भावनाओं से मुक्ति नहीं है; महान व्यक्ति भी गहरा दुःख अनुभव करते हैं।
