क्व स पाणिः सुखस्पर्शस्तातस्याक्लिष्टकर्मणः ।
येन मां रजसा ध्वस्तमभीक्ष्णं परिमार्जति ॥२-७२-३१॥
kva sa pāṇiḥ sukhasparśastātasyākliṣṭakarmaṇaḥ |
yena māṃ rajasā dhvastamabhīkṣṇaṃ parimārjati ॥2-72-31॥
Translation
"Where is that hand of pleasant touch belonging to my father of unwearied action, with which he used to repeatedly wipe me when I was covered in dust?"

"अक्लिष्टकर्मा (पुण्यकर्मा/थकान रहित कार्य करने वाले) पिता का वह सुखद स्पर्श वाला हाथ अब कहाँ है, जिससे वे धूल से सने हुए मेरे शरीर को बार-बार पोंछा करते थे?"
English Commentary
Bharata yearns for the tactile comfort of his father. He asks, "Where is that hand?" (kva sa pāṇiḥ). He recalls the sukha sparśaḥ (comforting touch) of Dasharatha, described as akliṣṭakarmaṇaḥ (one of unwearied/pure deeds). The imagery of the King wiping the dust (rajasā dhvastam) off his son establishes a tender, intimate bond distinct from their royal roles. It highlights the nurturing aspect of Dasharatha that Bharata is desperately missing in this moment of crisis.

भरत अब पिता के शारीरिक स्पर्श को याद कर रहे हैं। 'क्व स पाणिः' (कहाँ है वह हाथ)? वह हाथ जो 'सुखस्पर्शः' (सुखद स्पर्श वाला) था। वे बचपन की स्मृति को याद करते हैं जब वे खेलते हुए 'रजसा ध्वस्तम्' (धूल से सने हुए) आते थे और राजा स्वयं उन्हें साफ करते थे ('परिमार्जति')। 'अक्लिष्टकर्मणः' विशेषण दशरथ के लिए प्रयुक्त है, जिसका अर्थ है जो महान कार्य सहजता से करते थे, या जिनके कर्म पवित्र थे। एक महान सम्राट का अपने पुत्र की धूल झाड़ना उसके वात्सल्य की पराकाष्ठा है।
