यो मे भ्राता पिता बन्धुर्यस्य दासोऽस्मि धीमतः ।
तस्य मां शीघ्रमाख्याहि रामस्याक्लिष्टकर्मणः ॥२-७२-३२॥
yo me bhrātā pitā bandhuryasya dāso'smi dhīmataḥ |
tasya māṃ śīghramākhyāhi rāmasyākliṣṭakarmaṇaḥ ॥2-72-32॥
Translation
"He who is my brother, father, and kinsman, and whose servant I am—announce me quickly to that wise Rama of unwearied action."

"जो मेरे भाई, पिता और बन्धु हैं, और जिस बुद्धिमान के मैं दास (सेवक) हूँ, उस अक्लिष्टकर्मा राम को मेरे आने की शीघ्र सूचना दीजिये।"
English Commentary
This verse is pivotal in defining Bharata’s character. With Dasharatha gone, he immediately transfers his allegiance and filial devotion to Rama. He defines Rama as bhrātā (brother), pitā (father), and bandhu (friend/kin), encapsulating all relationships in one. Crucially, he declares, yasya dāso'smi (whose servant I am). This spontaneous submission contradicts Kaikeyi's entire scheme. He asks to be announced to Rama immediately, unaware that Rama is not in the palace. He attributes the same epithet akliṣṭakarmaṇaḥ to Rama as he did to his father, signaling that Rama is now the patriarch in his eyes.

पिता के न रहने पर भरत तुरंत अपने बड़े भाई राम की शरण में जाना चाहते हैं। यह श्लोक भरत की राम-भक्ति का मूल मंत्र है। वे राम को केवल भाई नहीं, बल्कि 'पिता' और 'बन्धु' मानते हैं। सबसे महत्वपूर्ण, वे स्वयं को राम का 'दास' (सेवक) घोषित करते हैं—'यस्य दासोऽस्मि'। यह कैकेयी के लिए एक बड़ा झटका है, जो भरत को 'राजा' बनाना चाहती थी। भरत राम के लिए भी उसी 'अक्लिष्टकर्मणः' विशेषण का प्रयोग करते हैं जो उन्होंने दशरथ के लिए किया था, यह दिखाते हुए कि वे राम को पिता का प्रतिरूप मानते हैं।
