Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पश्चिमं साधु सन्देशमिच्छामि श्रोतुमात्मनः ।
इति पृष्टा यथातत्त्वं कैकेयी वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥२-७२-३५॥
paścimaṃ sādhu sandeśamicchāmi śrotumātmanaḥ |
iti pṛṣṭā yathātattvaṃ kaikeyī vākyamabravīt ॥2-72-35॥
Translation
"I wish to hear the last reliable message intended for me." Being asked thus, Kaikeyi narrated the words exactly as they were spoken (truthfully).
हिंदी अनुवाद
"मैं अपने लिए (पिता का) अंतिम शुभ संदेश सुनना चाहता हूँ।" इस प्रकार पूछे जाने पर कैकेयी ने 'यथातत्त्वं' (जो जैसा हुआ था, ठीक वैसे ही/सच्चाई से) बात कही।
English Commentary
Bharata specifically asks for the paścimaṃ sandeśam (final message/last words) regarding himself (ātmanaḥ). Valmiki notes that Kaikeyi answered yathātattvaṃ (exactly as it was/truthfully). This indicates that she did not fabricate the King's last words. She relates the factual events of his death. Her adherence to the truth here serves her narrative; she needs Bharata to know the King died pining for Rama, which paves the way for her to explain why Rama wasn't there (exile), which she views as her achievement for Bharata's sake.

भरत 'पश्चिमं सन्देशम्' (अंतिम संदेश) सुनने की इच्छा व्यक्त करते हैं। वे इसे 'साधु' (अच्छा/शुभ/महत्वपूर्ण) संदेश मानते हैं। श्लोक में कहा गया है कि कैकेयी ने 'यथातत्त्वं' उत्तर दिया। यह शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है—यहाँ कैकेयी झूठ नहीं बोल रही है। वह दशरथ के अंतिम शब्दों को ज्यों का त्यों दोहराने वाली है। उसकी क्रूरता इस सत्यवादिता में छिपी है; वह जानती है कि यह सत्य भरत को चोट पहुँचाएगा, फिर भी वह इसे छिपाती नहीं है, शायद यह सोचकर कि इससे भरत को राम के वनवास का पता चल जाएगा।
