याचितस्ते पिता राज्यं रामस्य च विवासनम् ।
स स्ववृत्तिं समास्थाय पिता ते तत्तथाकरोत् ॥२-७२-५०॥
yācitaste pitā rājyaṃ rāmasya ca vivāsanam । sa svavṛttiṃ samāsthāya pitā te tattathākarot ॥2-72-50॥
Translation
I requested the kingdom for you and the exile of Rama from your father. Establishing himself in his own vow of truth, your father did exactly that.

मैंने तुम्हारे पिता से (तुम्हारे लिए) राज्य और राम के लिए वनवास माँगा। अपनी प्रतिज्ञा (सत्य) पर स्थिर रहते हुए तुम्हारे पिता ने वैसा ही किया।
English Commentary
Kaikeyi recounts the events with chilling pragmatism and lack of remorse. She clearly states that the dual outcome—the kingdom for Bharata and exile for Rama—was explicitly requested by her. By using the phrase "sva vṛttiṃ samāsthāya" (abiding by his own conduct/vow), she frames King Dasharatha's capitulation not as a weakness, but as adherence to the virtue of truthfulness. Kaikeyi attempts to legitimize the transfer of power by grounding it in the King's solemn promise. She presents the tragedy as a fulfilled contract: she asked, and he delivered. Her intent is to remove any hesitation Bharata might have by suggesting that accepting the kingdom is consistent with his father's will and the code of honor. However, she remains oblivious to the emotional and ethical catastrophe she has unleashed, viewing the King's adherence to truth merely as a tool to achieve her political ends.

यहाँ कैकेयी अत्यंत निष्ठुरता और स्पष्टता के साथ घटनाक्रम का वर्णन करती हैं। वह बिना किसी पश्चाताप के स्वीकार करती हैं कि राम का वनवास और भरत का राज्य, दोनों उनकी ही मांग का परिणाम थे। 'स्ववृत्तिं समास्थाय' वाक्यांश का प्रयोग करके वह राजा दशरथ की मृत्यु और निर्णयों को उनकी 'सत्यनिष्ठा' के रूप में प्रस्तुत करती हैं। कैकेयी यह जताना चाहती हैं कि महाराज ने जो किया, वह अपनी प्रतिज्ञा पालन (रघुकुल की रीति) के तहत किया, इसलिए इसमें कोई अपराधबोध नहीं होना चाहिए। वह इसे एक साधारण लेन-देन की तरह प्रस्तुत कर रही हैं—उन्होंने वरदान माँगा और राजा ने उसे पूरा किया। वह भरत को यह विश्वास दिलाना चाहती हैं कि राज्य अब उनका वैध अधिकार है क्योंकि यह उनके पिता द्वारा वचनबद्ध होकर दिया गया है, किन्तु वह इस प्रक्रिया में हुए नैतिक विनाश को पूरी तरह अनदेखा कर रही हैं।
