एवं पृष्टस्तु कैकेय्या प्रियं पार्थिवनन्दनः ।
आचष्ट भरतः सर्वं मात्रे राजीवलोचनः ॥२-७२-७॥
evaṃ pṛṣṭastu kaikeyyā priyaṃ pārthivanandanaḥ |
ācaṣṭa bharataḥ sarvaṃ mātre rājīvalocanaḥ ॥2-72-7॥
Translation
Thus asked affectionately by Kaikeyi, the lotus-eyed son of the King, Bharata, told his mother everything.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कैकेयी द्वारा इस प्रकार प्रिय वचन पूछे जाने पर, कमलनयन राजकुमार भरत ने माता को सब कुछ (विस्तार से) बता दिया।
English Commentary
Bharata is described here as pārthivanandanaḥ (son of the king) and rājīvalocanaḥ (lotus-eyed). The latter epithet, often associated with Rama or Vishnu, underscores Bharata's noble beauty and his intrinsic goodness. Despite his burning anxiety to know about the desolate state of Ayodhya, Bharata respects the hierarchy. When asked by his mother, he suppresses his own questions to answer hers first. This demonstrates his disciplined upbringing and respect for his mother, even in a time of distress. He provides the requested information before pivoting to his own pressing concerns.

यहाँ भरत को 'पार्थिवनन्दनः' (राजा का पुत्र) और 'राजीवलोचनः' (कमल के समान नेत्रों वाला) कहा गया है। 'राजीवलोचन' विशेषण अक्सर राम के लिए प्रयुक्त होता है, किन्तु यहाँ वाल्मीकि जी भरत के लिए इसका प्रयोग करके दोनों भाइयों की शारीरिक और चारित्रिक समानता की ओर संकेत करते हैं। यद्यपि भरत स्वयं चिंतित हैं और पिता के बारे में पूछना चाहते हैं, किन्तु 'एवं पृष्टस्तु' (इस प्रकार पूछे जाने पर) वे शिष्टाचार वश पहले माता के प्रश्नों का उत्तर देते हैं। यह उनकी मर्यादा और धैर्य का परिचायक है कि वे अपनी व्यग्रता को रोककर पहले माता को संतुष्ट करते हैं।
