कुलस्य त्वमभावाय कालरात्रिरिवागता ।
अङ्गारमुपगूह्य स्म पिता मे नावबुद्धवान् ॥२-७३-४॥
kulasya tvamabhāvāya kālarātririvāgatā । aṅgāramupagūhya sma pitā me nāvabuddhavān ॥2-73-4॥
Translation
You have come like the Kaalaratri (Night of Destruction) for the annihilation of this family. My father did not realize that he was embracing a burning coal.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम इस कुल के विनाश के लिए 'कालरात्रि' के समान आई हो। मेरे पिता यह नहीं समझ पाए कि उन्होंने (तुम्हारे रूप में) जलते हुए अंगारे को गले लगा रखा है।
English Commentary
Bharata's condemnation becomes fierce and mythical. He compares his mother to "Kālarātri," the personification of the dark night of death or dissolution, stating she appeared solely for the "abhāvāya" (non-existence/destruction) of the lineage. He then uses a tragic metaphor for his father's love: "embracing a burning coal" ("aṅgāram upagūhya"). This suggests that Dasharatha's intimacy with Kaikeyi was his undoing; he mistook a destructive force for a loving wife. Bharata asserts that his father was oblivious ("na avabuddhavān") to her true nature until it was too late. This verse marks a complete rejection of the mother-son bond; Bharata views her now only as the destroyer of the Raghu dynasty, an enemy from within who burned down the house.

भरत का क्रोध अब उग्र रूप ले लेता है। वह अपनी माता को 'कालरात्रि' कहते हैं—वह भयानक रात्रि जो प्रलय लाती है। वह कहते हैं कि कैकेयी का उद्देश्य ही 'कुलस्य अभावाय' (कुल के नाश के लिए) था। दूसरी पंक्ति में वह एक और सशक्त उपमा देते हैं—'अङ्गारमुपगूह्य' (अंगारे को गले लगाना)। वह कहते हैं कि राजा दशरथ, अपने प्रेम और विश्वास के कारण, यह नहीं जान पाए कि जिसे वह अपनी प्रिय पत्नी समझ रहे थे, वह वास्तव में एक दहकता हुआ अंगारा थी जो उन्हें भस्म कर देगी। यह कैकेयी के प्रति भरत की चरम घृणा और पिता के प्रति उनकी दया को दर्शाता है। वह मानते हैं कि पिता का प्रेम एक घातक भूल साबित हुआ। यहाँ 'माता' के प्रति सम्मान पूरी तरह समाप्त हो गया है, और केवल एक विनाशकारी शक्ति का बोध रह गया है।
