निर्पिक्षमाणः शक्रस्ताम् ददर्श सुरभिम् स्थिताम् ।
आकाशे विष्ठिताम् दीनाम् रुदतीम् भृशदुःखिताम् ॥ ॥२-७४-१९॥
nirīksamāṇaḥ śakrastām dadarśa surabhim sthitām |
ākāśe viṣṭhitām dīnām rudatīm bhṛśaduḥkhitām ॥2-74-19॥
Translation
Looking up, Indra (Shakra) saw Surabhi standing in the sky, appearing miserable, weeping, and deeply afflicted with sorrow.

ऊपर की ओर देखते हुए इन्द्र ने आकाश में स्थित, अत्यंत दुखी और रोती हुई दीन सुरभि को देखा।
English Commentary
Upon investigating, Indra visually confirms his deduction. He sees Surabhi ākāśe viṣṭhitām (stationed in the sky). The descriptors used—dīnām (wretched/pitiable) and bhṛśaduḥkhitām (excessively sorrowful)—stand in sharp contrast to her earlier description as worshipped by gods. The commentary emphasizes that grief levels all beings; even a celestial provider acts like a helpless, weeping mother when her children suffer. This visual of a divine mother weeping in the sky serves as a powerful omen that demands immediate attention from the King of Gods.
