शान्तम् पातम् न वः किम्चित् कुतश्चित् अमर अधिप ।
अहम् तु मग्नौ शोचामि स्व पुत्रौ विषमे स्थितौ ॥ ॥२-७४-२३॥
śāntam pāpam na vaḥ kiñcit kutaścit amarādhipa |
aham tu magnau śocāmi svaputrau viṣame sthitau ॥2-74-23॥
Translation
"May sin be propitiated! (Let no evil befall you). There is no danger to you from anywhere, O Lord of Immortals. But I am grieving for my two sons who are sunk in difficulty."

"हे अमरनाथ! शांत हो पाप (अर्थात सब कुशल हो), आप लोगों पर कहीं से कोई संकट नहीं है। मैं तो अपने उन दो पुत्रों के लिए शोक कर रही हूँ जो कठिन परिस्थिति में फँसे हुए हैं।"
English Commentary
Surabhi begins with a benediction, śāntam pāpam (let sin/evil be pacified), effectively telling Indra that his fears of a cosmic threat are unfounded. She clarifies that her grief is focused on svaputrau (her own two sons). The commentary emphasizes the shift in scale: Indra worried about the universe, while Surabhi worries about two specific individuals. This highlights the focused nature of love. By using the phrase viṣame sthitau (placed in difficulty/uneven ground), she directs the King of Heaven's attention to the rugged earth where the struggle is taking place.

सुरभि सबसे पहले इन्द्र के भय को दूर करती हैं। 'शान्तम् पापम्' एक मुहावरा है जिसका अर्थ है 'अनिष्ट दूर हो' या 'ऐसा न हो'। वह स्पष्ट करती हैं कि उनका दुख राजनीतिक या ब्रह्मांडीय नहीं, बल्कि नितांत व्यक्तिगत और ममता से भरा है। 'विषमे स्थितौ' (कठिन परिस्थिति में पड़े हुए) उन बैलों की ओर संकेत है जो धूप में हल जोत रहे हैं। यहाँ सुरभि यह शिक्षा देती हैं कि एक माँ के लिए उसकी संतान का कष्ट किसी भी बड़े युद्ध या दैवीय संकट से कम महत्वपूर्ण नहीं होता।
