एतौ दृष्ट्वा कृषौ दीनौ सूर्य रश्मि प्रतापिनौ ।
अर्ध्यमानौ बली वर्दौ कर्षकेण सुर अधिप ॥ ॥२-७४-२४॥
etau dṛṣṭvā kṛśau dīnau sūryaraśmipratāpinau |
ardhyamānau balīvardau karṣakeṇa surādhipa ॥2-74-24॥
Translation
"Seeing these two bulls, emaciated and distressed, scorched by the rays of the sun, and being tormented by the farmer, O Lord of Gods, (I grieve)."

"हे सुरराज! सूर्य की किरणों से तपते हुए, किसान द्वारा पीटे/हांके जाते हुए, दुर्बल और दीन इन दो बैलों को देखकर (मैं रो रही हूँ)।"
English Commentary
Surabhi paints a vivid picture of agricultural hardship. She points out the physical state of the bulls: kṛśau (emaciated) and scorched by sūryaraśmi (sun rays). Furthermore, they are being driven hard (ardhyamānau) by the peasant (karṣakeṇa). The commentary notes that Surabhi does not blame the farmer with malice, but simply observes the suffering inherent in the act of ploughing. It draws a sharp contrast between the luxury of Indra's heaven and the harsh labor required on earth, bridging the two worlds through her compassion.

इस श्लोक में सुरभि अपने दुख का विस्तृत कारण बताती हैं। बैलों की स्थिति का वर्णन अत्यंत करुण है: वे 'कृषौ' (कमजोर/दुबले) हैं, सूर्य की गर्मी से जल रहे हैं, और किसान उन्हें 'अर्ध्यमानौ' (पीड़ा दे रहा/हंक रहा) है। सुरभि देवताओं के राजा को धरती की कठोर वास्तविकता दिखा रही हैं—जहाँ जीवन निर्वाह के लिए मूक पशुओं का शोषण होता है। यहाँ 'कर्षकेण' (किसान द्वारा) शब्द का प्रयोग किसी द्वेष के लिए नहीं, बल्कि उस व्यवस्था को दिखाने के लिए है जिसमें निर्बल को कष्ट सहना पड़ता है।
