Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सोऽमात्यमध्येभरतो जननीमभ्यकुत्सयत् ।
राज्यम् न कामये जातु मन्त्रये नापि मातरम् ॥ ॥२-७५-२॥
so'mātyamadhyebharato jananīm abhyakutsayat |
rājyam na kāmaye jātu mantraye nāpi mātaram ॥2-75-2॥
Translation
"He, Bharata, amidst the ministers, reproached his mother (saying): 'I never desired the kingdom at any time, nor did I counsel my mother (to do this).'"

"उस भरत ने मंत्रियों के बीच में (बैठी हुई) अपनी माता की निंदा की (और कहा)—'न तो मैं कभी राज्य की कामना करता हूँ और न ही मैंने अपनी माता को (इसके लिए) सलाह दी थी'।"
English Commentary
Immediately upon recovering, Bharata addresses the audience, specifically the ministers (amātyamadhye). It is crucial for him to clear his name publicly. He engages in abhyakutsayat (reproaching/accusing) of his mother to distance himself from her. His defense is twofold: lack of intent (na kāmaye - I did not desire) and lack of conspiracy (mantraye nāpi - I did not counsel/plot). This implies that he fears the court assumes his complicity, and he must forcefully deny it to preserve his honor.
