अभिषेकम् न जानामि योऽभूद्राज्ञा समीक्षितः ।
विप्रकृष्टे ह्यहम् देशे शत्रुघ्न सहितोऽवसम् ॥ ॥२-७५-३॥
abhiṣekam na jānāmi yo'bhūdrājñā samīkṣitaḥ । viprakṛṣṭe hyaham deśe śatrughna sahito'vasam ॥ ॥2-75-3॥
Translation
I knew nothing of the coronation that was contemplated by the King; for at that time, I was residing in a very distant land with Shatrughna.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिस राज्याभिषेक का विचार महाराज ने किया था, उसके विषय में मैं कुछ नहीं जानता था; क्योंकि उस समय मैं शत्रुघ्न के साथ (यहाँ से) बहुत दूर देश (केकय) में निवास कर रहा था।
English Commentary
This verse establishes Bharata's total lack of complicity in the events that have transpired. By stating he was in a 'distant land' (Kekaya) with Shatrughna, he emphasizes that he was physically and informationally cut off from Ayodhya's politics. Bharata feels the need to immediately assert his innocence regarding the aborted coronation of Rama. The phrase 'contemplated by the King' highlights that the original plan was Dasharatha's will, not Bharata's ambition. This denial is crucial because Bharata is about to face the wrath and suspicion of the people of Ayodhya and, most painfully, Rama's mother, Kausalya.

यह श्लोक भरत की निर्दोषता और उनकी मानसिक स्थिति को स्पष्ट करता है। भरत अपनी माता कैकेयी या अन्य किसी को भी यह समझाने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं कि अयोध्या में घटित षड्यंत्र में उनकी कोई भूमिका नहीं थी। 'विप्रकृष्टे देशे' (सुदूर देश में) कहकर वे यह प्रमाण देते हैं कि भौतिक दूरी के कारण उनका इस योजना से कोई संपर्क नहीं था। यह उनकी लाचारी को दर्शाता है कि जब उनके पिता और भाई के जीवन में इतने बड़े निर्णय लिए जा रहे थे, वे पूर्णतः अनभिज्ञ थे। यह कथन आगे चलकर कौशल्या के साथ उनके संवाद की आधारशिला बनता है, जहाँ उन्हें अपनी निष्ठा सिद्ध करनी पड़ती है।
