मा च तम् प्यूढबाह्वम्सम् चन्द्रार्कसम्तेजनम् ।
द्राक्षीद्राज्यस्थमासीनम् यस्यार्योऽनुमते गतः ॥ ॥२-७५-२९॥
mā ca tam pyūḍhabāhvamsam candrārkasamtejanam । drākṣīdrājyasthamāsīnam yasyāryo'numate gataḥ ॥ ॥2-75-29॥
Translation
"May he never see that one with broad arms and shoulders, radiant like the moon and sun, seated on the throne—by whose consent the Arya went."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"विशाल भुजाओं और कंधों वाले, तथा सूर्य और चन्द्रमा के समान तेजस्वी उस राम को वह राजसिंहासन पर बैठा हुआ न देख पाए, जिसकी अनुमति से आर्य (राम) वन को गए हों।"
English Commentary
This oath is personal and heartbreaking. Unlike the others which invoke social or religious sins, this one invokes a deprivation of joy. Bharata's greatest desire is to see Rama, described here as pyudhabahvamsam (broad-shouldered/powerful) and radiant, sitting on the throne. To curse himself never to witness this sight (ma... drakshid) is to deny himself the only resolution to the current tragedy that he finds acceptable. It proves that his "ambition" for the throne is non-existent; his only ambition is to see Rama rule.

यह भरत की सबसे भावुक शपथों में से एक है। इसमें कोई शास्त्रीय पाप नहीं, बल्कि एक निजी वंचना है। भरत का सबसे बड़ा स्वप्न राम को राजा बनते देखना है। वे कहते हैं कि यदि मैंने राम को निकाला है, तो मुझे राम को राजा के रूप में देखने का सौभाग्य कभी न मिले। 'चन्द्रार्कसम्तेजनम्' (चंद्र और सूर्य समान तेज वाले) विशेषण राम के राजसी वैभव का वर्णन करता है। भरत के लिए राम के राज्याभिषेक से वंचित रहना ही सबसे बड़ा नरक है। यह उनकी निस्वार्थ भक्ति का प्रमाण है।
