गाश्च स्पृशतु पादेन गुरून् परिवदेत्स्वयम् ।
मित्रे द्रुह्येत सोऽत्यन्तम् यस्यार्योऽनुमते गतः ॥ ॥२-७५-३१॥
gāśca spṛśatu pādena gurūn parivadetsvayam । mitre druhyeta so'tyantam yasyāryo'numate gataḥ ॥ ॥2-75-31॥
Translation
"May he touch cows with his foot, speak ill of his teachers himself, and betray his friend utterly, by whose consent the Arya went."

"वह गायों को पैर से स्पर्श करे (लात मारे), गुरुओं की निंदा करे और मित्र से अत्यंत द्रोह (विश्वासघात) करे, जिसकी अनुमति से आर्य (राम) वन को गए हों।"
English Commentary
Bharata lists three acts that guarantee social and spiritual ostracization: physical disrespect to the sacred cow, verbal abuse of teachers, and betrayal of friends (mitre druhyeta). Treachery against a friend is considered particularly heinous in the epics (Mitra-droha). By invoking this, Bharata aligns the potential conspiracy against Rama with the basest forms of human behavior. He is declaring that conspiring against his brother would make him as vile as one who violates the most sacred bonds of friendship and reverence.

यहाँ पुनः सामाजिक और धार्मिक मर्यादाओं के उल्लंघन की बात की गई है। गाय को पैर लगाना हिंदू धर्म में महापाप है। गुरु की निंदा करना ('परिवदेत्') विद्या और संस्कार का नाश करता है। 'मित्रे द्रुह्येत' (मित्र से द्रोह) को विश्वासघात माना जाता है। भरत इन तीनों पापों को अपने ऊपर लेते हैं। विशेष रूप से मित्र-द्रोह का उल्लेख महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि राम केवल उनके भाई नहीं, बल्कि सखा भी हैं। भरत कह रहे हैं कि राम के विरुद्ध जाना, मित्र की पीठ में छुरा घोंपने जैसा नीच कार्य है।
