Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विप्रलु प्तप्रजातस्य दुष्कृतम् ब्राह्मणस्य यत् ।
तदेव प्रतिपद्येत यस्यार्योऽनुमते गतः ॥ ॥२-७५-५४॥
vipraluptaprajātasya duṣkṛtam brāhmaṇasya yat । tadeva pratipadyeta yasyāryo’numate gataḥ ॥ ॥2-75-54॥
Translation
The sin (or bad fortune) that belongs to a Brahmin who has lost his children (or whose line has been cut off)—may he incur that very same fate if Arya went forth with my consent.
हिंदी अनुवाद
संतानहीन (जिसकी संतान नष्ट हो गई हो) ब्राह्मण को जो पाप लगता है (या उसे जो दुःख होता है), वही पाप (या दुःख) उसे प्राप्त हो जिसकी सहमति से आर्य वन को गये हैं।
English Commentary
In the Vedic context, having progeny (praja) is essential for a Brahmin to continue the sacred traditions and offer libations to ancestors. A vipralupta-prajata is one whose progeny has been cut off or destroyed. This is considered a great misfortune and often attributed to past bad karma (dushkritam). Bharata invokes this specific state of barrenness and spiritual dead-end. He is essentially saying that if he conspired against Rama, he deserves to be spiritually severed from his future and his ancestors, suffering the heavy karmic burden of a lineage that dies with him.

यह श्लोक थोड़ा जटिल है। इसके दो अर्थ हो सकते हैं: या तो उस ब्राह्मण का पाप जिसने अपने कर्तव्यों की अवहेलना की और फलस्वरूप संतानहीन हुआ, या फिर संतान के नष्ट होने का असहनीय दुःख। प्राचीन मान्यताओं में, पुत्र के बिना 'पुत्' नामक नरक से मुक्ति नहीं मिलती और पिंडदान नहीं हो पाता। अतः एक ब्राह्मण के लिए वंश का नाश होना आध्यात्मिक दृष्टि से बहुत बड़ा संकट है। भरत कह रहे हैं कि यदि वे दोषी हैं, तो उन्हें वही संताप और आध्यात्मिक गतिरोध प्राप्त हो जो एक निर्वंश ब्राह्मण को होता है। यह वंश-परंपरा और पितृ-ऋण के महत्व को रेखांकित करता है।
