हिरण्यम् च सुवर्णम् च वासाम्सि विविधानि च ।
प्रकिरन्तः जना मार्गम् नृपतेर् अग्रतः ययुः ॥ ॥२-७६-१५॥
Hiranyam cha suvarnam cha vasamsi vividhani cha । Prakirantah jana margam nripater agratah yayuh ॥ ॥2-76-15॥
Translation
People walked ahead of the King on the path, scattering silver, gold, and various kinds of garments.
हिंदी अनुवाद
लोग राजा के आगे-आगे मार्ग में चाँदी, सोना और नाना प्रकार के वस्त्र बिखेरते (लुटाते) हुए चल रहे थे।
English Commentary
This describes an ancient custom often performed during royal funeral processions, symbolizing final charity or Dana. Just as the King was a giver in life, wealth is distributed even in his death procession. Philosophically, scattering gold (suvarnam) and silver (hiranyam) signifies the worthlessness of material wealth in the face of death—it is all left behind. It also serves as a mark of honor, showing that the King's dignity is superior to material treasures, which are cast onto the dusty road before him.

यह अंतिम यात्रा के समय की जाने वाली एक प्राचीन परंपरा है, जिसे अक्सर 'बिखेर' या अंतिम दान कहा जाता है। राजा अपने जीवन में दाता थे, और उनकी अंतिम यात्रा में भी धन और वस्त्रों का त्याग किया जा रहा है। इसका एक दार्शनिक अर्थ यह भी है कि मृत्यु के समय सांसारिक धन-संपदा का कोई मूल्य नहीं रह जाता; वह सब पीछे ही छूट जाता है। यह प्रजा द्वारा अपने प्रिय राजा के सम्मान में किया गया त्याग भी है, जो दर्शाता है कि राजा का महत्व सोने-चाँदी से कहीं अधिक था।
