तथा हुत अशनम् हुत्वा जेपुस् तस्य तदा ऋत्विजः ।
जगुः च ते यथा शास्त्रम् तत्र सामानि सामगाः ॥ ॥२-७६-१८॥
Tatha huta ashanam hutva jepus tasya tada ritvijah । Jaguh cha te yatha shastram tatra samani samagah ॥ ॥2-76-18॥
Translation
Then, offering oblations into the fire, the priests chanted prayers; and the chanters of the Sama Veda sang the Saman hymns there according to the scriptures.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदनन्तर ऋत्विजों ने अग्नि में आहुति देकर जप किया और सामवेद के गायकों (सामगाः) ने वहां शास्त्रानुसार साम-गान किया।
English Commentary
This explicitly marks the ceremony as a Vedic cremation. Oblations are offered into the fire as if it were a Yajna. यह श्लोक स्पष्ट करता है कि यह वैदिक अंत्येष्टि है। अग्नि प्रज्वलित करने के बाद उसमें आहुतियाँ दी गईं। 'सामगाः' वे ब्राह्मण हैं जो सामवेद के मंत्रों का गायन करते हैं। सामवेद का गायन विशेष रूप से पितृ-कार्य और शांति के लिए किया जाता है। यह कोलाहल पूर्ण विलाप के बीच एक आध्यात्मिक और गंभीर वातावरण निर्मित करता है, जो आत्मा की ऊर्ध्व गति के लिए आवश्यक माना जाता है। सब कुछ 'यथा शास्त्रम्' (शास्त्रों के अनुसार) किया गया।
