प्रवारयसि नः सर्वाम्स् तन् नः को अद्य करिष्यति ।
अवदारण काले तु पृथिवी न अवदीर्यते ॥ ॥२-७७-१६॥
pravārayasi naḥ sarvāms tan naḥ ko adya kariṣyati । avadāraṇa kāle tu pṛthivī na avadīryate ॥ ॥2-77-16॥
Translation
...you used to make the best choices for us all; who will do that for us today? Even at this time, which warrants splitting open, the earth does not split apart.
हिंदी अनुवाद
...आप हम सबकी (उन वस्तुओं के चयन में) सहायता और देखभाल करते थे; आज हमारे लिए वह कौन करेगा? (इतने दुख के बाद भी) फटने का समय आने पर भी यह पृथ्वी फट क्यों नहीं रही है?
English Commentary
The thought concludes with a rhetorical question about who will care for them now, followed by a dramatic invocation of the earth. Shatrughna expresses the classic mythological sentiment that nature should convulse in response to such a monumental tragedy. He feels that the earth should split open ('avadiryate') and swallow them up, as the pain of existence has become unbearable. The fact that the physical world remains intact while their personal world has collapsed adds to his despair. It signifies a sorrow so deep that continued existence on a stable earth seems unnatural and wrong to him.

पहले भाग में शत्रुघ्न उस वात्सल्य को याद करते हैं जहाँ पिता अपनी संतानों की हर छोटी-बड़ी आवश्यकता का ध्यान रखते थे। दूसरे भाग में उनका दुख चरम पर पहुँच जाता है। भारतीय साहित्य में यह मान्यता है कि जब पाप या दुख का भार असहनीय हो जाता है, तो पृथ्वी को फट जाना चाहिए (जैसे सीता के लिए अंत में हुआ था)। शत्रुघ्न आश्चर्यचकित और क्रोधित हैं कि राजा दशरथ की मृत्यु और राम के वनवास जैसी महान त्रासदियों के बावजूद, पृथ्वी अभी भी स्थिर है। यह 'अवदारण काले' (फटने के उचित समय) वाक्यांश उनके मानसिक आघात और स्थिति की गंभीरता को दर्शाता है।
