ब्राह्मणेभ्यो ददौ रत्नम् धनम् अन्नम् च पुष्कलम् ।
वासाम्सि च महार्हाणि रत्नानि विविधानि च ॥ ॥२-७७-२॥
Brahmanebhyo dadau ratnam dhanam annam cha pushkalam । Vasamsi cha maharhani ratnani vividhani cha ॥ ॥2-77-2॥
Translation
Bharata gave gems, wealth, and abundant food to the Brahmins, as well as costly garments and various kinds of jewels.

भरत ने ब्राह्मणों को रत्न, धन और प्रचुर मात्रा में अन्न दिया। साथ ही, बहुमूल्य वस्त्र और नाना प्रकार के रत्न भी दान किए।
English Commentary
Charity (Dana) is the central component of the Shraddha ceremony. It is believed that gifts given to learned Brahmins at this time accrue merit that aids the departed soul's journey. Bharata displayed no frugality; he donated pushkalam (abundant) food and maharhani (precious) garments. The scale of charity befitted King Dasharatha's imperial status. This act reflects both Bharata's generosity and his deep desire to ensure the spiritual well-being of his father.

श्राद्ध कर्म का मुख्य अंग 'दान' है। माना जाता है कि इस समय ब्राह्मणों को दिया गया दान सीधे मृतक की आत्मा को प्राप्त होता है और उसकी आगे की यात्रा को सुखद बनाता है। भरत ने कृपणता नहीं की; उन्होंने 'पुष्कलम्' (प्रचुर) अन्न और 'महार्हाणि' (महंगे) वस्त्र दान किए। राजा दशरथ के स्तर के अनुरूप ही यह दान-पुण्य किया गया। यह भरत की उदारता और अपने पिता के प्रति उनकी अगाध श्रद्धा को दर्शाता है।
