Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विललाप महा बाहुर् भरतः शोक मूर्चितः ।
शब्द अपिहित कण्ठः च शोधन अर्थम् उपागतः ॥ ॥२-७७-५॥
Vilalapa maha bahur bharatah shoka murchitah । Shabda apihita kanthah cha shodhana artham upagatah ॥ ॥2-77-5॥
Translation
The mighty-armed Bharata, who had arrived for the purpose of clearing the site (gathering bones/purification), became overwhelmed with grief; with his throat choked, he began to lament.
हिंदी अनुवाद
महाबाहु भरत, जो चिता-स्थान के शोधन (हड्डियाँ चुनने या स्थान पवित्र करने) के लिए वहां आए थे, शोक से मूर्च्छित होकर और गला रुंध जाने के कारण विलाप करने लगे।
English Commentary
The task for the thirteenth day is shodhana—cleaning the cremation site and collecting the final remains (asthi). The moment Bharata arrives at the physical spot where his father was cremated, his composure collapses. Shoka murchitah implies he is stupefied or fainting from sorrow. Shabda apihita kanthah (throat blocked against words) vividly describes the physiological effect of extreme grief, where one chokes up and cannot articulate words clearly.

तेरहवें दिन का कार्य 'शोधन' है—अर्थात् चिता स्थल की सफाई और बची हुई अस्थियों का संचयन (यदि पहले नहीं किया गया हो)। जैसे ही भरत उस स्थान पर पहुँचते हैं जहाँ उनके पिता का दाह संस्कार हुआ था, उनका संयम टूट जाता है। 'शोक मूर्चितः' का अर्थ है कि दुःख इतना गहरा है कि वे सुध-बुध खो बैठे हैं। 'शब्द अपिहित कण्ठः' (शब्दों से बंद गला) बताता है कि अत्यधिक रोने के कारण वे स्पष्ट बोल नहीं पा रहे हैं।
