शत्रुघ्नः च तत् आज्ञाय वचनम् भृश दुह्खितः ।
अन्तः पुर चरान् सर्वान् इति उवाच धृत व्रतः ॥ ॥२-७८-१०॥
Śatrughnaḥ ca tat ājñāya vacanam bhṛśa duhkhitaḥ । Antaḥ pura carān sarvān iti uvāca dhṛta vrataḥ ॥ ॥2-78-10॥
Translation
Understanding those words, Shatrughna, firm in his resolve yet extremely grieved, spoke thus to all the residents of the inner palace.

उस वचन को समझकर/सुनकर, दृढ़ व्रत धारण करने वाले शत्रुघ्न अत्यंत दुखी हुए और अंतःपुर में विचरण करने वाले सभी लोगों से इस प्रकार बोले।
English Commentary
Shatrughna is described with two contrasting attributes: deeply sorrowful (bhṛśa duhkhitaḥ) and firm in resolve (dhṛta vrataḥ). This mixture of grief and determination fuels his subsequent actions. He addresses the entire household (antaḥ pura carān), transforming his personal vendetta into a public act of justice. He wants witnesses to the punishment he is about to inflict, establishing that this is a consequence of treachery, not just random violence.

शत्रुघ्न की स्थिति यहाँ जटिल है। वे 'भृश दुह्खितः' (अत्यंत दुखी) हैं, जो उनके कोमल भ्रातृ-प्रेम को दर्शाता है, लेकिन साथ ही वे 'धृत व्रतः' (दृढ़ व्रत वाले) भी हैं, जो उनके कठोर निश्चय को दिखाता है। मन्थरा को सामने देखकर उनका दुख क्रोध में परिवर्तित हो जाता है। वे किसी एक व्यक्ति से नहीं, बल्कि 'अन्तःपुर चरान् सर्वान्' (महल के सभी निवासियों) को संबोधित करते हैं, मानो वे अपने न्याय की घोषणा सार्वजनिक रूप से करना चाहते हैं।
