ततः सुभृश सम्तप्तः तस्याः सर्वः सखी जनः ।
क्रुद्धम् आज्ञाय शत्रुघ्नम् व्यपलायत सर्वशः ॥ ॥२-७८-१३॥
Tataḥ subhṛśa samtaptaḥ tasyāḥ sarvaḥ sakhī janaḥ । Kruddham ājñāya śatrughnam vyapalāyata sarvaśaḥ ॥ ॥2-78-13॥
Translation
Then, realizing that Shatrughna was furiously angry, all her friends/companions were terrified and fled in all directions.

तब शत्रुघ्न को अत्यंत क्रोधित जानकर, उसके (मन्थरा के) सभी सखी-जन बहुत भयभीत हुए और सब दिशाओं में भाग खड़े हुए।
English Commentary
The terrifying demeanor of Shatrughna causes instant panic among Manthara's entourage. Recognizing his blind fury (kruddham ājñāya), her companions abandon her. This flight (vyapalāyata) underscores the intensity of the threat Shatrughna poses—he is currently viewed not as a prince, but as an unstoppable force of destruction. Manthara is left completely isolated, symbolizing how accomplices often desert the instigator when accountability arrives.

शत्रुघ्न का रौद्र रूप देखकर मन्थरा की संगिनियाँ उसे बचाने का साहस नहीं कर पातीं। 'व्यपलायत सर्वशः' (सब दिशाओं में भाग गईं) यह दर्शाता है कि भय का स्तर कितना ऊँचा था। सामान्यतः रानियों की दासियाँ एकजुट रहती हैं, लेकिन शत्रुघ्न का क्रोध इतना प्रचंड था कि आत्मरक्षा की भावना निष्ठा पर भारी पड़ गई। यह मन्थरा के पूर्ण अलगाव (isolation) को भी दर्शाता है—पाप के परिणाम भोगते समय पापी अकेला रह जाता है।
