तस्या हि आकृष्यमाणाया मन्थरायाः ततः ततः ।
चित्रम् बहु विधम् भाण्डम् पृथिव्याम् तत् व्यशीर्यत ॥ ॥२-७८-१७॥
Tasyā hi ākṛṣyamāṇāyā mantharāyāḥ tataḥ tataḥ । Citram bahu vidham bhāṇḍam pṛthivyām tat vyaśīryata ॥ ॥2-78-17॥
Translation
As Manthara was being dragged here and there, her various colorful ornaments were scattered all over the ground.

उस मन्थरा को इधर-उधर घसीटे जाने के कारण, उसके चित्र-विचित्र और बहुत प्रकार के आभूषण (भाण्डम्) पृथ्वी पर बिखर गए।
English Commentary
This verse serves as a visual metaphor for the disintegration of Manthara's ambitions. The "various colorful ornaments" (citram bahu vidham bhāṇḍam) she had proudly donned in Sarga 78 Verse 6 are now being ripped off and scattered. Being dragged "here and there" indicates a chaotic struggle. The destruction of her finery symbolizes the stripping away of her assumed status and the futility of her material gains obtained through treachery.

पिछले श्लोकों में वर्णित मन्थरा का साज-श्रृंगार अब धूल में मिल रहा है। 'भाण्डम्' शब्द यहाँ आभूषणों के लिए प्रयुक्त हुआ है। जिसे उसने अपने अहंकार के प्रदर्शन के लिए पहना था, वह अब बिखर कर नष्ट हो रहा है। यह दृश्य मन्थरा के पतन (downfall) का प्रतीक है। जिस ऐश्वर्य और सत्ता के लोभ में उसने राम को वन भेजा, वह ऐश्वर्य क्षण भर में चकनाचूर हो गया। यह नियति का कठोर परिहास है।
