Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तेन भाण्डेन सम्कीर्णम् श्रीमद् राज निवेशनम् ।
अशोभत तदा भूयः शारदम् गगनम् यथा ॥ ॥२-७८-१८॥
Tena bhāṇḍena samkīrṇam śrīmad rāja niveśanam । Aśobhata tadā bhūyaḥ śāradam gaganam yathā ॥ ॥2-78-18॥
Translation
Strewn with those ornaments, the opulent royal palace shone at that time like the autumn sky (filled with stars).

उन आभूषणों से भरा हुआ वह श्रीसंपन्न राजभवन उस समय शरद ऋतु के (तारों से जड़े) आकाश की भांति सुशोभित हो रहा था।
English Commentary
Valmiki uses a striking aesthetic simile in the midst of violence. The floor, scattered with sparkling jewels, is compared to the clear autumn sky filled with stars (śāradam gaganam). This creates a jarring juxtaposition between the visual beauty of the gems and the brutal reality of how they got there. It emphasizes the sheer quantity of wealth Manthara was wearing and perhaps suggests that the palace is being 'cleansed' of her ill-gotten gains, returning to a state of cosmic clarity (autumn sky) through this act of purging.

वाल्मीकि जी यहाँ एक अद्भुत और विरोधाभासी उपमा (simile) का प्रयोग करते हैं। हिंसा और अफरातफरी के बीच, फर्श पर बिखरे हुए रंग-बिरंगे रत्न और आभूषण 'शरद ऋतु के आकाश' (शारदम् गगनम्) जैसे लग रहे हैं। यह एक ओर तो बिखरे हुए रत्नों की चमक को दिखाता है, वहीं दूसरी ओर दृश्य की विडंबना (irony) को गहरा करता है—दृश्य सुंदर है, लेकिन संदर्भ भयावह है। यह काव्य सौंदर्य और कथा की क्रूरता का मिश्रण है।
