इति सम्भाषमाणे तु शत्रुघ्ने लक्ष्मण अनुजे ।
प्राग् द्वारे अभूत् तदा कुब्जा सर्व आभरण भूषिता ॥ ॥२-७८-५॥
Iti sambhāṣamāṇe tu śatrughne lakṣmaṇa anuje । Prāg dvāre abhūt tadā kubjā sarva ābharaṇa bhūṣitā ॥ ॥2-78-5॥
Translation
While Shatrughna, the younger brother of Lakshmana, was speaking thus, the hunchback (Manthara) appeared at the eastern gate, adorned with all kinds of ornaments.

लक्ष्मण के छोटे भाई शत्रुघ्न जब इस प्रकार बात कर रहे थे, तभी पूर्वी द्वार पर वह कुबड़ी (मन्थरा) सभी आभूषणों से सजी-धजी प्रकट हुई।
English Commentary
The narrative timing here is impeccable. Just as Shatrughna is venting his fury regarding the conspiracy, the architect of that conspiracy, Manthara, physically enters the scene. Her appearance creates a sharp visual contrast: she is decked out in jewelry (sarva ābharaṇa bhūṣitā) amidst a palace paralyzed by mourning. This underscores her narcissism and total lack of empathy. She believes she has secured the kingdom for Bharata and is flaunting her perceived status, completely unaware that she is walking directly into the path of Shatrughna's misplaced aggression. It is a moment of dramatic irony.

यह एक नाटकीय मोड़ है। जिस समय शत्रुघ्न का क्रोध चरम पर था और वे कैकेयी के कृत्यों की निंदा कर रहे थे, ठीक उसी समय इस सारे अनर्थ की जड़—मन्थरा—वहाँ आ पहुँचती है। 'सर्व आभरण भूषिता' (सारे गहनों से लदी हुई) होना उसकी संवेदनहीनता को दर्शाता है। जहाँ पूरा राजमहल शोक में डूबा है, मन्थरा अपनी जीत का जश्न मना रही है। उसे तनिक भी आभास नहीं है कि वह मृत्यु के मुख (शत्रुघ्न) के सामने जा रही है। यह संयोग (coincidence) कथा में एक तीव्र संघर्ष (climax) की भूमिका तैयार करता है।
