Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवम् सम्भाषमाणम् तम् राम हेतोर् नृप आत्मजम् ।
प्रत्युवाच जनः सर्वः श्रीमद् वाक्यम् अनुत्तमम् ॥२-७९-१४॥
evam sambhāṣamāṇam tam rāma hetor nṛpa ātmajam । pratyuvāca janaḥ sarvaḥ śrīmad vākyam anuttamam ॥ ॥2-79-14॥
Translation
To the prince (Bharata), who was speaking thus for the sake of Rama, all the people replied with glorious and unsurpassed words.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राम के लिए इस प्रकार (त्यागपूर्ण) बातें करते हुए उन राजकुमार (भरत) से वहां उपस्थित सभी लोगों ने अत्यंत सुंदर और उत्तम वचन कहे।
English Commentary
This verse marks the turning point in public opinion. Until this moment, there was tension regarding Bharata's stance. Hearing him speak so passionately rāma hetor (for Rama's cause), the collective suspicion evaporates. The text describes the people's response as śrīmad vākyam anuttamam (glorious and unsurpassed speech). It signifies a collective sigh of relief and approval. The unity between the ruler (or regent) and the ruled is restored through the unifying factor of loyalty to Rama. Bharata has successfully won the hearts of the people not by taking the throne, but by refusing it.

भरत के भाषण का प्रभाव तत्काल दिखाई देता है। अब तक जो जनता और सभासद संशय में थे कि भरत शायद राज्य स्वीकार कर लेंगे, उनका संदेह दूर हो गया। 'राम हेतोर्' (राम के हित के लिए) बोलने वाले भरत को सुनकर जनता गदगद हो उठी। यहाँ जनता की प्रतिक्रिया को 'श्रीमद् वाक्यम्' (शोभायुक्त/श्री से युक्त वचन) कहा गया है। जब शासक धर्म का पालन करता है, तो प्रजा का उत्तर भी सुंदर और मंगलमय होता है। यह श्लोक उस तनाव की समाप्ति का सूचक है जो दशरथ की मृत्यु और राम के वनवास के बाद अयोध्या में व्याप्त था।
