Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवम् ते भाषमाणस्य पद्मा श्रीर् उपतिष्ठताम् ।
यः त्वम् ज्येष्ठे नृप सुते पृथिवीम् दातुम् इच्चसि ॥२-७९-१५॥
evam te bhāṣamāṇasya padmā śrīr upatiṣṭhatām । yaḥ tvam jyeṣṭhe nṛpa sute pṛthivīm dātum iccasi ॥ ॥2-79-15॥
Translation
(The people said) May the Goddess of Fortune (Padma Shri) attend upon you, who speak thus and desire to offer the earth (kingdom) to the eldest prince.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(लोगों ने कहा) इस प्रकार (धर्मयुक्त) वचन बोलने वाले आप पर राज्यलक्ष्मी (पद्मा श्री) की कृपा बनी रहे, जो आप ज्येष्ठ राजकुमार (राम) को यह पृथ्वी (राज्य) देना चाहते हैं।
English Commentary
The people's blessing contains a profound spiritual truth. They bless Bharata that Padmā Śrī (Royal Fortune/Lakshmi) should attend to him because he wishes to give the kingdom away. It reflects the karmic principle that those who renounce power are often most worthy of it. By desiring to give the pṛthivīm (earth/kingdom) to the rightful heir, Bharata displays the integrity that defines true kingship. The populace recognizes that Bharata's refusal to rule actually secures the moral prosperity of the realm. They are essentially saying, "You are glorious because you are selfless."

यह एक विरोधाभासी (paradoxical) आशीर्वाद है। लोग भरत को 'श्री' (राज्यलक्ष्मी) प्राप्त होने का आशीर्वाद दे रहे हैं क्योंकि वे राज्य का 'त्याग' कर रहे हैं। भारतीय दर्शन में यह माना जाता है कि जो भोग का त्याग करता है, लक्ष्मी उसी के पीछे आती है। लोग कह रहे हैं कि चूँकि आप ज्येष्ठ भ्राता को पृथ्वी देना चाहते हैं, इसलिए आप ही सच्चे अर्थों में राजलक्ष्मी के पात्र हैं। यहाँ भरत की महानता को मान्यता दी गई है। जो सत्ता का लोभी नहीं है, वही सत्ता को संभालने के लिए सबसे योग्य है। यह आशीर्वाद भरत के 'त्याग' का जन-अनुमोदन (public endorsement) है।
