राज्यम् गृहाण भरत पितृ पैतामहम् महत् ।
अभिषेचय च आत्मानम् पाहि च अस्मान् नर ऋषभ ॥ ॥२-७९-५॥
Rājyam gṛhāṇa Bharata pitṛ paitāmaham mahat । Abhiṣecaya ca ātmānam pāhi ca asmān nara ṛṣabha ॥ ॥2-79-5॥
Translation
"O Bharata, accept this great kingdom of your father and forefathers. Get yourself consecrated and protect us, O bull among men."

"हे भरत! पिता और पितामहों के इस महान राज्य को ग्रहण करें। अपना अभिषेक करवाएं और हे नरश्रेष्ठ! हम सबकी रक्षा करें।"
English Commentary
The appeal concludes with a call to tradition and duty. The kingdom is described as pitṛ paitāmaham—an inheritance from father and grandfathers—implying that rejecting it would be disrespecting his ancestors. The imperative verbs gṛhāṇa (accept/take), abhiṣecaya (get anointed), and pāhi (protect) outline the sequence of expected action. They are asking him to step into the role of the protector. This sets the stage for Bharata's famous refusal, as the ministers are viewing the situation politically, while Bharata views it morally.

यह मंत्रियों का अंतिम आग्रह है। वे राज्य को 'पितृ पैतामहम्' (बाप-दादाओं का) बताकर भरत को यह एहसास दिलाते हैं कि यह उनकी पुश्तैनी जायदाद और जिम्मेदारी है, जिसे वे ठुकरा नहीं सकते। राजा का मुख्य कार्य 'पालन' या रक्षा करना है ('पाहि च अस्मान्')। वे भरत को 'नर ऋषभ' (पुरुषों में श्रेष्ठ) कहते हैं, जो उनकी क्षमता पर विश्वास प्रकट करता है। मंत्री चाहते हैं कि भरत संकोच छोड़ें और विधिवत अपना अभिषेक ('अभिषेचय च आत्मानम्') करवाकर शासन संभालें।
