भविता राघवो राजा राघवस्यानु यः सुतः ।
राजवंशात्तु कैकेयि भरतः परिहास्यते ॥२-८-२२॥
Bhavitā Rāghavo rājā Rāghavasyānu yaḥ sutaḥ |
Rājavaṃśāttu Kaikeyi Bharataḥ parihāsyate ॥2-8-22॥
Translation
Raghava will become the King, and after him, his son. But Bharata, O Kaikeyi, will be excluded from the royal lineage.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राघव (राम) राजा होंगे, और उनके बाद उनका पुत्र (राजा होगा)। हे कैकेयी! भरत तो राजवंश से ही अलग (बहिष्कृत) कर दिए जाएँगे।
English Commentary
Manthara exposes a bitter truth of monarchy here. The throne passes from father to son. If Rama becomes king, his son will succeed him, not Bharata. Thus, Bharata and his descendants will be permanently excluded from the royal lineage, reduced to mere commoners or subordinates. The word 'parihāsyate' implies being cast aside or deprived. Manthara wants Kaikeyi to understand that this is not a one-time event, but the permanent erasure of Bharata’s birthright and legacy.

मंथरा यहाँ राजतंत्र के एक कड़वे सत्य को उजागर करती है। राजा का बेटा ही राजा बनता है। यदि राम राजा बने, तो भविष्य में राम का पुत्र ही गद्दी पर बैठेगा, न कि भरत। इस प्रकार भरत और उनकी आने वाली पीढ़ियाँ राजवंश की मुख्य धारा से हमेशा के लिए बाहर हो जाएंगी और केवल सामान्य सामंत बनकर रह जाएंगी। 'परिहास्यते' शब्द का अर्थ है 'त्याग दिया जाना' या 'वंचित रह जाना'। मंथरा कैकेयी को यह समझाना चाहती है कि यह केवल एक बार की घटना नहीं, बल्कि अनंत काल के लिए भरत के अधिकारों का हनन है।
