Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
श्रूयते हि द्रुमः कश्चिच्चेत्तव्यो वनजीविभिः ।
सन्निकर्षादिषीकाभिर्मो चितः परमाद्भयात् ॥२-८-३०॥
Śrūyate hi drumaḥ kaścicchettavyo vanajīvibhiḥ |
Sannikarṣādiṣīkābhirmocitaḥ paramādbhayāt ॥2-8-30॥
Translation
It is heard that a certain tree, marked to be cut down by foresters, was saved from that great danger due to the proximity of thorny shrubs surrounding it.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सुना जाता है कि वनवासियों द्वारा काटे जाने योग्य किसी वृक्ष को उसके समीप उगी हुई कांटेदार झाड़ियों (इषीकाओं) ने परम भय (कटने) से बचा लिया था।
English Commentary
This is an analogy. Just as thorny shrubs surrounding a tree prevent woodcutters from reaching and cutting it, Lakshmana (the shrubs) protects Rama (the tree). The alliance between Rama and Lakshmana makes them invulnerable. Conversely, Bharata is distant and effectively isolated (Shatrughna is a follower, not a warrior-protector like Lakshmana), making him an easy target. This verse highlights the strength found in unity and the danger inherent in isolation.

यह एक दृष्टांत (उदाहरण) है। इसका अर्थ यह है कि जैसे कांटेदार झाड़ियाँ एक पेड़ को लकड़हारों से बचा लेती हैं (क्योंकि झाड़ियों के कारण वे पेड़ तक पहुँच नहीं पाते), वैसे ही लक्ष्मण (झाड़ियाँ) राम (पेड़) की रक्षा करते हैं। राम और लक्ष्मण का गठबंधन उन्हें अजेय बनाता है। दूसरी ओर, भरत दूर हैं और अकेले हैं (शत्रुघ्न केवल अनुगामी हैं, रक्षक नहीं), इसलिए भरत असुरक्षित हैं। यह श्लोक संगठन में शक्ति और अलगाव में खतरे को दर्शाता है।
