गोप्ता हि रामं सौमित्रिर्लक्ष्मणं चापि राघवः ।
अश्विनोरिव सौभ्रात्रं तयोर्लोकेषु विश्रुतम् ॥२-८-३१॥
Goptā hi Rāmaṃ Saumitrir Lakṣmaṇaṃ cāpi Rāghavaḥ |
Aśvinoriva saubhrātraṃ tayor lokeṣu viśrutam ॥2-8-31॥
Translation
Indeed, Saumitri (Lakshmana) protects Rama, and Raghava protects Lakshmana. Their brotherly love is renowned in the worlds, like that of the Ashvini Kumaras.

सुमित्राकुमार (लक्ष्मण) राम की रक्षा करते हैं और राघव (राम) लक्ष्मण की। उन दोनों का भ्रातृ-प्रेम अश्विनीकुमारों की तरह लोकों में प्रसिद्ध है।
English Commentary
Manthara confirms the unbreakable bond between Rama and Lakshmana. The Ashvini Kumaras are the twin physicians of the gods, inseparable and identical in purpose. Rama and Lakshmana act as each other's protectors ('goptā'). Manthara’s goal is to make Kaikeyi realize that Rama is not alone; he is fortified by Lakshmana. In any potential conflict, Bharata would stand no chance against this united front. This adds another layer to the fear-mongering: emphasizing the formidable strength of the "opposition."

मंथरा राम और लक्ष्मण के बीच के अटूट बंधन की पुष्टि करती है। अश्विनीकुमार देवताओं के जुड़वां वैद्य हैं जो सदैव साथ रहते हैं। राम और लक्ष्मण एक-दूसरे के रक्षक ('गोप्ता') हैं। मंथरा का उद्देश्य कैकेयी को यह समझाना है कि राम अकेले नहीं हैं; उनके पास लक्ष्मण जैसा शक्तिशाली योद्धा और भाई है। यदि कल को युद्ध या संघर्ष होता है, तो भरत इनका सामना नहीं कर पाएंगे। यह भय का एक और आयाम है—शत्रु की शक्ति का अहसास कराना।
