इति एवम् भरतम् प्रेक्ष्य विलपन्तम् विचेतनम् ।
कृपणम् रुरुदुः सर्वाः सस्वरम् योषितः तदा ॥२-८१-८॥
iti evam bharatam prekṣya vilapantam vicetanam |
kṛpaṇam ruruduḥ sarvāḥ sasvaram yoṣitaḥ tadā ॥2-81-8॥
Translation
Seeing Bharata thus lamenting, distraught, and in a pitiable state, all the women there cried out loudly.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इस प्रकार भरत को चेतना-शून्य (व्याकुल) होकर विलाप करते हुए और दीन दशा में देखकर, वहाँ उपस्थित सभी स्त्रियाँ ऊँचे स्वर में रोने लगीं।
English Commentary
The grief of the protagonist triggers a collective catharsis. Seeing Bharata, who should be the commanding presence, reduced to a vicetanam (distraught/senseless) and kṛpaṇam (miserable/pitiable) state, the royal women lose their composure. Their loud weeping (ruruduḥ sasvaram) drowns out the auspicious sounds of the morning. This verse illustrates Bharata's empathy and vulnerability; he does not hide his emotions behind a mask of stoicism. His genuine suffering moves the entire household, creating a shared atmosphere of mourning amidst the royal encampment meant for celebration.

भरत का दुख व्यक्तिगत नहीं रहा, वह सामूहिक शोक बन गया। 'विचेतनम्' (सुध-बुध खोए हुए) और 'कृपणम्' (दीन/दयनीय) शब्द भरत की गहन वेदना को दर्शाते हैं। एक शक्तिशाली राजकुमार की ऐसी स्थिति देखकर अंतःपुर की स्त्रियाँ (माताएँ और दासियाँ) अपने आँसू नहीं रोक सकीं। 'सस्वरम्' का अर्थ है कि वे फूट-फूट कर, आवाज़ के साथ रोईं। यह दृश्य करुण रस की निष्पत्ति करता है। जिस समय मंगल वाद्य बज रहे थे, उसी समय राज-शिविर क्रंदन से गूँज उठा, जो स्थिति की विडंबना को और गहरा करता है।
