एष ज्ञाति सहस्रेण स्थपतिः परिवारितः ।
कुशलो दण्डक अरण्ये वृद्धो भ्रातुश्च ते सखा ॥ ॥२-८४-१२॥
Eṣa jñāti sahasreṇa sthapatiḥ parivāritaḥ |
Kuśalo daṇḍaka araṇye vṛddho bhrātuś ca te sakhā ॥2-84-12॥
Translation
(Sumantra said:) "This lord of the Nishadas (Sthapati), surrounded by thousands of his kinsmen, is an expert regarding the Dandaka forest, is old [experienced], and is a friend of your brother."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(सुमंत ने कहा:) यह निषादों का स्वामी (स्थपति) अपने हजारों स्वजनों से घिरा हुआ यहाँ आया है। यह दंडकारण्य के मार्गों का जानकार है, वृद्ध (अनुभवी) है और आपके भाई (राम) का मित्र है।
English Commentary
Sumantra provides a strategic briefing to Bharata about Guha. He uses the term Sthapati (Chief/Architect/Lord), acknowledging Guha's sovereignty. He highlights three assets Guha possesses: military strength (surrounded by thousands), local intelligence (expert in Dandaka forest), and diplomatic relevance (friend of your brother). By explicitly mentioning the friendship with Rama (bhrātuś ca te sakhā), Sumantra instantly validates Guha's importance to Bharata, knowing that anyone dear to Rama is dear to Bharata. This introduction dissolves any potential hostility and sets the stage for a respectful alliance.
