Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विनिश्श्वसन्वै भृशदुर्मनास्ततः ।
प्रमूढसम्ज्ञः परमापदम् गतः ।
शमम् न लेभे हृदयज्वरार्दितो ।
नरर्षभो यूथहतो यथर्षभः ॥ ॥२-८५-२१॥
viniśśvasanvai bhṛśadurmanāstataḥ । pramūḍhasamjñaḥ paramāpadam gataḥ । śamam na lebhe hṛdayajvarārdito । nararṣabho yūthahato yatharṣabhaḥ ॥ ॥2-85-21॥
Translation
Sighing heavily, with a mind in utter turmoil, losing consciousness, and having fallen into extreme distress, that bull among men (Bharata) found no peace. Tormented by the fever of his heart, he was like a bull separated from its herd.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे लंबी साँसें ले रहे थे, उनका मन अत्यंत व्याकुल था, उनकी चेतना लुप्त हो रही थी और वे घोर संकट में थे। हृदय के ज्वर (संताप) से पीड़ित वे नरश्रेष्ठ (भरत) शांति नहीं पा रहे थे, जैसे झुंड से बिछड़ा हुआ सांड (वृषभ) व्याकुल होता है।
English Commentary
Bharata is described as Nararṣabha (Bull among men), usually a title denoting strength and leadership. However, here he is compared to a yūthahato ṛṣabhaḥ—a bull separated from its herd. This simile perfectly captures his isolation; without Rama (the leader of the herd), Bharata feels lost and vulnerable. The symptoms—sighing, fainting, "heart-fever" (hṛdayajvara)—are somatic manifestations of his intense psychological trauma. He finds no śamam (peace/relief), emphasizing the relentlessness of his grief throughout the night.

भरत की शारीरिक और मानसिक अवस्था का दयनीय चित्रण है। 'हृदय ज्वर' का अर्थ है मानसिक बुखार या अत्यधिक पीड़ा। यहाँ भरत की तुलना 'यूथहतो ऋषभः' (झुंड से अलग हुए सांड/बैल) से की गई है। जैसे एक शक्तिशाली बैल अपने झुंड से अलग होकर अकेला और असुरक्षित महसूस करता है, वैसे ही भरत अपने परिवार (राम-लक्ष्मण-सीता) से अलग होकर नितांत अकेले पड़ गए हैं। 'नरर्षभ' (नरश्रेष्ठ) शब्द का प्रयोग यह बताता है कि वे सामान्यतः बहुत शक्तिशाली और धैर्यवान हैं, लेकिन राम-वियोग ने उनकी शक्ति को भी तोड़ दिया है।
