गुहेन सार्धम् भरतः समागतः ।
महा अनुभावः सजनः समाहितः ।
सुदुर्मनाः तम् भरतम् तदा पुनर् ।
गुहः समाश्वासयद् अग्रजम् प्रति ॥ ॥२-८५-२२॥
guhena sārdham bharataḥ samāgataḥ । mahā anubhāvaḥ sajanaḥ samāhitaḥ । sudurmanāḥ tam bharatam tadā punar । guhaḥ samāśvāsayad agrajam prati ॥ ॥2-85-22॥
Translation
Then Bharata, of noble nature and surrounded by his people, met with Guha with a focused mind. At that time, Guha again consoled the deeply dejected Bharata concerning his elder brother (Rama).
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब महान अनुभव वाले, अपने जनों से घिरे हुए और एकाग्रचित्त भरत गुह के साथ मिल गए। उस समय अत्यंत उदास मन वाले भरत को गुह ने उनके बड़े भाई (राम) के विषय में बातें करके पुनः सांत्वना दी।
English Commentary
This verse sets the scene for the interaction in the 86th Sarga. Bharata is dignified (mahā anubhāvaḥ) and composed (samāhitaḥ) in his duties, yet internally crushed (sudurmanāḥ). Guha recognizes that the only way to soothe Bharata is to speak of the source of his grief and love: Rama. By narrating details about the "agrajam" (elder brother), Guha aims to provide vicarious contact with Rama. It shifts the focus from abstract grief to concrete memories of Rama’s stay, which serves as a balm for Bharata.

यह श्लोक एक नया प्रसंग शुरू करता है (सर्ग ८६ का प्रारंभ)। यद्यपि भरत 'महानुभाव' (महान प्रभाव/स्वभाव वाले) और 'समाहितः' (सावधान/एकाग्र) हैं, फिर भी वे 'सुदुर्मनाः' (अत्यंत दुखी) हैं। गुह एक अच्छे मित्र की भूमिका निभाते हैं। वे देखते हैं कि भरत का दुख कम नहीं हो रहा, इसलिए वे 'अग्रजम् प्रति' (बड़े भाई राम के विषय में) बातें करके उन्हें ढाढ़स बंधाते हैं। राम की बातें ही भरत के लिए एकमात्र औषधि हैं। गुह अब वह वृत्तांत सुनाना शुरू करेंगे जब राम यहाँ रुके थे, ताकि भरत को राम के सामीप्य का अनुभव हो सके।
