प्रभाते विमले सूर्ये कारयित्वा जटा उभौ ।
अस्मिन् भागीरथी तीरे सुखम् सम्तारितौ मया ॥२-८६-२४॥
Prabhāte vimale sūrye kārayitvā jaṭā ubhau । Asmin bhāgīrathī tīre sukham samtāritau mayā ॥ ॥2-86-24॥
Translation
(Guha concludes:) "In the morning, when the sun was clear, having had matted locks made for both of them, they were safely ferried across the banks of this Bhagirathi by me."

(गुह ने कहा:) "प्रातःकाल सूर्य के निर्मल होने पर, (वटवृक्ष के दूध से) उन दोनों की जटाएं बनवाकर, मैंने उन्हें इस भागीरथी (गंगा) के तट से सुखपूर्वक पार उतारा।"
English Commentary
Guha recounts the final acts of Rama's stay with him. He mentions that at daybreak, under a clear sun, Rama and Lakshmana adopted the mark of ascetics: matted hair (jaṭā). This act signifies the formal severance from royal grooming and the acceptance of forest life. Guha emphasizes his own service with the phrase samtāritau mayā (ferried across by me), assuring Bharata that he personally ensured their safe passage across the Bhagirathi (Ganga). It conveys Guha’s loyalty and attempts to comfort Bharata by showing that Rama was cared for till the very end of Guha's jurisdiction.

गुह अपनी बात समाप्त करते हुए भरत को बताते हैं कि अगली सुबह क्या हुआ। 'कारयित्वा जटा' (जटाएं बनवाकर) एक महत्वपूर्ण संस्कार है। वनवास के नियमों के अनुसार, राम और लक्ष्मण ने अपने राजसी केशों को वट-दूध से जटाओं में परिवर्तित कर लिया, जो गृहस्थ जीवन के त्याग का प्रतीक है। गुह गर्व और संतोष के साथ कहते हैं 'सुखम् सम्तारितौ मया'—अर्थात मैंने उन्हें सुरक्षित रूप से नदी पार कराई। यह सेवक का धर्म है। गुह यह सुनिश्चित करना चाहते हैं कि भरत को पता चले कि उनके भाई को गंगा पार करने में कोई कष्ट नहीं हुआ था।
