न च प्रार्थयते कश्चिन् मनसा अपि वसुम्धराम् ।
वने अपि वसतः तस्य बाहु वीर्य अभिरक्षिताम् ॥ ॥२-८८-२३॥
Na ca prārthayate kaścin manasā api vasumdharām । Vane api vasataḥ tasya bāhu vīrya abhirakṣitām ॥ ॥2-88-23॥
Translation
"Even though he dwells in the forest, no one dares to even mentally covet this earth, which is protected by the strength of his arms."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"यद्यपि वे (श्रीराम) वन में निवास कर रहे हैं, फिर भी उनकी भुजाओं के पराक्रम से सुरक्षित इस धरती को कोई (शत्रु) मन से भी चाहने (हड़पने) की इच्छा नहीं करता।"
English Commentary
Bharata highlights the metaphysical extent of Rama’s power. Usually, a king must be present on the throne to protect his borders. However, Rama’s reputation is such that his bāhu vīrya (strength of arms) acts as a deterrent even from the forest. Enemies do not dare to prārthayate (covet/desire) the kingdom, knowing it belongs to Rama. This illustrates the concept of Pratapa (glory/majesty)—where the mere existence of the hero creates a shield around his property, rendering physical guards almost secondary.

यह श्लोक श्रीराम के 'प्रताप' का वर्णन करता है। राजा की उपस्थिति ही नहीं, उसका अस्तित्व ही शत्रुओं के लिए भय का कारण होता है। भरत कहते हैं कि राम वन में हैं, फिर भी उनका 'बाहु वीर्य' (भुजबल) अयोध्या की रक्षा कर रहा है। यह राम के व्यक्तित्व का ओज है कि शत्रु जानते हैं कि अयोध्या पर आक्रमण का अर्थ है राम से शत्रुता मोल लेना। 'मनसा अपि' (मन से भी) – अर्थात आक्रमण तो दूर, शत्रु अयोध्या की ओर आँख उठाने का विचार भी नहीं लाते। यह भरत का राम की शक्ति में अटूट विश्वास है।
