व्युष्य रात्रिं तु तत्रैव गङ्गाकूले स राघव: ।
भरत: काल्यमुत्थाय शत्रुघ्नमिदमब्रवीत् ।

Vyuṣya rātriṃ tu tatraiva gaṅgākūle sa rāghava: । Bharata: kālyamutthāya śatrughnamidamabravīt । । ॥2-89-1॥
Translation
Having spent the night right there on the banks of the Ganges, that Raghava (Bharata), rising early in the morning, spoke these words to Shatrughna.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राघव (भरत) ने वह रात उसी गंगा तट पर बिताई। प्रातःकाल उठकर उन्होंने शत्रुघ्न से यह बात कही।
English Commentary
This verse opens Sarga 89, marking the transition from the night of lamentation to the morning of action. Bharata is referred to as Raghava (scion of Raghu), reminding us that he shares the same noble blood as Rama. After passing the night (vyuṣya rātriṃ) on the riverbank, Bharata rises at dawn (kālyam utthāya). The specific mention of addressing Shatrughna highlights the close bond between the two younger brothers, mirroring the Rama-Lakshmana bond. The narrative is now poised for the crossing of the Ganga and the journey to Chitrakoot.

यहाँ से सर्ग 89 का आरम्भ होता है। कथा आगे बढ़ती है। 'स राघवः' (वह राघव) – यहाँ वाल्मीकि जी भरत को भी 'राघव' (रघुवंशज) कह रहे हैं, जो उनकी कुलीनता को दर्शाता है। रात बीत गई है ('व्युष्य रात्रिं')। यह वही रात थी जब गुह ने उन्हें सब बताया और भरत ने वह कठिन प्रतिज्ञा ली। 'काल्यम् उत्थाय' (सुबह जल्दी उठकर) – भरत अपने कर्तव्य के प्रति सचेत हैं। वे अब चित्रकूट की ओर प्रस्थान करने की तैयारी कर रहे हैं। शत्रुघ्न उनके एकमात्र विश्वासपात्र हैं जिनसे वे अपने मन की बात साझा करते हैं।
