नावश्चारुरुहुश्चान्ये प्लवैस्तेरुस्तथापरे ।
अन्ये कुम्भघटैस्तेरुरन्ये तेरुश्च बाहुभि: ।

nāvaścāruruhuścānye plavaisterustathāpare |
anye kumbhaghaṭaisteruranye teruśca bāhubhiḥ ॥2-89-19॥
Translation
Some boarded boats, others crossed on rafts; some swam using large pots for buoyancy, while others crossed using just their own arms.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कुछ लोग नावों पर चढ़े, तो दूसरे बेड़ों (प्लव) से तैरे। कुछ अन्य लोग घड़ों (कुम्भ) के सहारे तैरे, और कुछ अपनी भुजाओं के बल पर ही नदी पार कर गए।
English Commentary
This verse illustrates the varied methods of crossing, reflecting both the hierarchy and the resourcefulness of the army. While the elite likely took the boats, common soldiers used rafts (plavaih), buoyant pots (kumbhaghaṭaih), or simply their physical strength (bāhubhiḥ). It provides a realistic snapshot of ancient military transit across water bodies. The use of pots as flotation devices is an authentic historical detail of river crossings in ancient India. It highlights the determination of the collective mass to follow Bharata across the Ganga.
