न ह्यतिक्रमितुं शक्तस्तव वाक्यं महीपतिः ।
मन्दस्वभावे बुद्ध्यस्व सौभाग्यबलमात्मनः ॥२-९-२६॥
na hyatikramituṃ śaktastava vākyaṃ mahīpatiḥ |
mandasvabhāve buddhyasva saubhāgyabalamātmanaḥ ॥2-9-26॥
Translation
O naive one! The King is indeed unable to transgress your word. Realize the power of your own good fortune.

हे भोले स्वभाव वाली (रानी कैकेयी)! राजा (दशरथ) तुम्हारे वचन का उल्लंघन करने में समर्थ नहीं हैं। तुम अपने सौभाग्य के बल को समझो।
English Commentary
This verse appears in the Ayodhya Kanda as Manthara continues her manipulative persuasion of Queen Kaikeyi. Manthara addresses Kaikeyi as 'Mandasvabhave' (O one of naive nature), chiding the Queen not for lack of intelligence, but for her innocence regarding political maneuvering and her failure to recognize her own dominance over the King. Manthara asserts that King Dasharatha is incapable of crossing the line drawn by Kaikeyi's words; he cannot refuse her.
Manthara urges Kaikeyi to wake up and realize the 'power of her good fortune' (Saubhagya-balam)—specifically, the immense emotional hold she has over Dasharatha. By emphasizing this, Manthara aims to remove any hesitation Kaikeyi might have about making such a drastic demand as Rama's exile. The commentary highlights how Manthara transforms Kaikeyi's perception of her relationship with the King from one of mutual love to one of leverage, ensuring the Queen feels empowered to exact her boons.

यह श्लोक वाल्मीकि रामायण के अयोध्याकाण्ड का है, जहाँ मंथरा रानी कैकेयी को अपनी शक्ति पहचानने के लिए प्रेरित कर रही है। मंथरा यहाँ कैकेयी को 'मन्दस्वभावे' कहकर संबोधित करती है, जिसका अर्थ यहाँ 'मूर्ख' नहीं, अपितु 'सीधे' या 'भोले' स्वभाव से है, क्योंकि मंथरा की दृष्टि में कैकेयी अपनी रानियों वाली कूटनीति और प्रभाव का प्रयोग करना नहीं जानतीं। मंथरा का उद्देश्य कैकेयी को यह विश्वास दिलाना है कि राजा दशरथ उनके प्रेम में इतने विवश हैं कि रानी के मुख से निकली किसी भी बात को टालना उनके लिए असंभव है।
