येन कालेन रामश्च वनात्प्रत्यागमिष्यति ।
तेन कालेन पुत्रस्ते कृतमूलो भविष्यति ॥२-९-३४॥
yena kālena rāmaśca vanātpratyāgamiṣyati |
tena kālena putraste kṛtamūlo bhaviṣyati ॥2-9-34॥
Translation
By the time Rama returns from the forest, your son (Bharata) will have become firmly established (deeply rooted) in the kingdom.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिस समय तक राम वन से लौटेंगे, उस समय तक तुम्हारा पुत्र (भरत) राज्य में अपनी जड़ें जमा चुका होगा (अर्थात् उसका शासन सुदृढ़ हो चुका होगा)।
English Commentary
In this verse, Manthara finalizes her strategic argument regarding the specific duration of the exile. She explains to Queen Kaikeyi that the timeframe is designed to utilize the power of time against Rama. Manthara argues that by the time Rama returns after fourteen long years, the political landscape of Ayodhya will have irreversibly changed. She uses the metaphor 'Kritamula' (having taken deep roots) to describe Bharata's future status.
Manthara foresees that during this long interim, Bharata will secure the loyalty of the ministers, the army, and the subjects, effectively replacing Rama in the collective consciousness of the kingdom. She assures Kaikeyi that even if Rama returns, he will find himself an outsider with no political leverage, as the administration will be firmly grounded in Bharata's rule. This calculation is intended to remove any lingering fear in Kaikeyi's mind that Rama might reclaim the throne later, promising her a permanent victory for her son.

यह श्लोक मंथरा की कूटनीतिक योजना का तार्किक निष्कर्ष है। वह कैकेयी को आश्वस्त कर रही है कि वनवास की अवधि इतनी लंबी (चौदह वर्ष) क्यों होनी चाहिए। मंथरा का तर्क है कि सत्ता में 'समय' सबसे बड़ा कारक है। वह जानती है कि यदि राम कम समय के लिए बाहर गए, तो प्रजा की निष्ठा उनके प्रति बनी रहेगी। किंतु, चौदह वर्षों का अंतराल इतना विशाल है कि इस बीच एक पूरी पीढ़ी बदल जाती है।
