चंद्रमाह्वयमानेन मुखेनाप्रतिमानना ।
गमिष्यसि गतिं मुख्यां गर्वयन्ती द्विषज्जने ॥ ॥२-९-५१॥
candramāhvayamānena mukhenāpratimānanā |
gamiṣyasi gatiṃ mukhyāṃ garvayantī dviṣajjane ॥2-9-51॥
Translation
O peerless one! With a face that challenges the moon (in radiance), you shall walk with a superior gait, scorning (or provoking jealousy in) the enemies.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे अनुपम मुख वाली! (आभूषणों से सजने के बाद) चन्द्रमा को चुनौती देने वाले (सुंदर) मुख से, तू अपने शत्रुओं को (ईर्ष्या से) जलाती हुई एक विशिष्ट (शाही) चाल से चलेगी।
English Commentary
In this verse, Kaikeyi reaches the zenith of her flattery to ensure Manthara's cooperation. She addresses the hunchbacked Manthara as apratimanan (one with a peerless face) and claims her countenance will 'challenge the moon' in radiance once adorned. Kaikeyi visualizes a future where Manthara walks with a 'mukhyam gatim' (superior or majestic gait) through the palace.
The key term here is dvishajjane (enemies). Kaikeyi imagines Manthara strutting proudly to humiliate or scorn those who oppose them (implying Queen Kausalya and Rama's circle). This reveals a dangerous shift in Kaikeyi's psyche: she now views the royal household as a battlefield divided into friends and foes. She derives perverse pleasure from the thought that raising a servant to such heights will spite Kausalya, demonstrating how deep Manthara's poison has settled in her heart.

यह श्लोक रानी कैकेयी की चापलूसी की पराकाष्ठा है। मंथरा से अपनी योजना पूरी करवाने के लिए लालायित कैकेयी, एक कुबड़ी दासी को 'अप्रतिमानना' (जिसके मुख की कोई उपमा न हो) कह रही है। कैकेयी कहती है कि आभूषणों से सजने के बाद मंथरा का मुख चंद्रमा की कांति को भी फीका कर देगा। वह कल्पना करती है कि मंथरा राजमहल में एक विशिष्ट और गर्वीली चाल (गतिं मुख्यां) से चलेगी।
यहाँ 'द्विषज्जने' (शत्रु पक्ष) शब्द अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। कैकेयी का मानना है कि मंथरा के इस उत्थान को देखकर उसके तथाकथित शत्रु (कौशल्या और राम के समर्थक) अपमान और ईर्ष्या से जल उठेंगे। यह श्लोक दर्शाता है कि कैकेयी अब पूरी तरह से कुटिल राजनीति के प्रभाव में है; वह अपने ही परिवार के सदस्यों को 'शत्रु' मानने लगी है और एक दासी के अहंकार को उनकी हार के रूप में देखना चाहती है।
