Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
भरद्वाजाश्रमं दृष्ट्वा क्रोशादेव नरर्षभ: ।
बलं सर्वमवस्थाप्य जगाम सह मन्त्रिभि: ॥२-९०-१॥
bharadvājāśramaṃ dṛṣṭvā krośādeva nararṣabhaḥ |
balaṃ sarvamavasthāpya jagāma saha mantribhiḥ ॥2-90-1॥
Translation
Seeing Bharadwaja’s hermitage from a Krosha (approx. 2 miles) away, the bull among men (Bharata) halted his entire army and proceeded only with his ministers.
हिंदी अनुवाद
नरश्रेष्ठ भरत ने एक कोस (लगभग 3 किमी) दूर से ही भरद्वाज जी के आश्रम को देखकर अपनी पूरी सेना को वहीं रोक दिया और (केवल) मंत्रियों के साथ आगे बढ़े।
English Commentary
Bharata demonstrates impeccable etiquette regarding sacred spaces. Recognizing that a military retinue brings dust, noise, and disturbance, he halts the army a krosha (roughly two miles) away. The epithet nararṣabhaḥ (bull among men) commends his judgment. He acts not with the entitlement of a royal heir, but with the sensitivity of a Dharma-abiding protector. Leaving the mass force behind, he proceeds with a smaller circle (ministers), filtering the group as he gets closer to the holy presence.

यह श्लोक 'आश्रम-मर्यादा' का उत्कृष्ट उदाहरण है। एक बड़ी सेना का कोलाहल तपोवन की शांति भंग कर सकता है, इसलिए भरत ने 'क्रोशादेव' (एक कोस दूर ही) सेना रोक दी। 'नरर्षभ:' (पुरुषों में श्रेष्ठ) विशेषण उनके इस विवेकपूर्ण निर्णय की प्रशंसा करता है। वे पहले ऋत्विजों के साथ थे, अब मंत्रियों को साथ ले रहे हैं, जो दर्शाता है कि वे धीरे-धीरे अपने दल को छोटा कर रहे हैं ताकि ऋिष के सम्मान में कोई कमी न आए। यह एक अनुशासित शासक और विनीत शिष्य का व्यवहार है।
