Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इति पादातयोधाश्च हस्त्यश्वारोह बन्धका: ।
अनाथास्तं विधिं लब्ध्वा वाचमेतामुदैरयन् ॥ ॥२-९१-५९॥
Iti pādātayodhāśca hastyasvāroha bandhakāḥ । Anāthāstaṃ vidhiṃ labdhvā vācametāmudairayan ॥ ॥2-91-59॥
Translation
Thus the foot soldiers, the elephant and horse riders, and the attendants—who were like masterless orphans (in the wild)—having received such hospitality, uttered these words.
हिंदी अनुवाद
पैदल सैनिक, हाथी और घोड़े के सवार तथा सेवकगण—जो (वन में) अनाथ जैसे थे, वे ऐसी (राजसी) व्यवस्था पाकर यह बात कहने लगे।
English Commentary
The sentiment of abandoning the mission permeates all ranks—infantry (padata), cavalry, and servants (bandhakah). The term anathah (orphaned/helpless) is interesting; it likely refers to their previous ragged state in the forest before this magical intervention, or perhaps ironically that in their intoxicated state, they felt free from the authority of their masters. Having received such vidhim (treatment/hospitality), they collectively voiced their desire to remain.

यहाँ स्पष्ट किया गया है कि यह भावना पूरी सेना में व्याप्त थी, चाहे वह पैदल सैनिक हो या घुड़सवार। 'अनाथा:' (अनाथ) शब्द का प्रयोग इसलिए किया गया है क्योंकि वन में वे असहाय अनुभव कर रहे थे, या शायद इसलिए कि नशे में वे अपने स्वामी (भरत) को भूलकर स्वयं को स्वतंत्र मान रहे थे। उन्हें जो 'विधि' (व्यवस्था/सत्कार) प्राप्त हुई, उसने उन्हें इतना विस्मित कर दिया कि वे एक स्वर में विद्रोह (रुकने की इच्छा) की भाषा बोलने लगे।
