Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
नृत्यन्ति स्म हसन्ति स्म गायन्ति स्म च सैनिका: ।
समन्तात् परिधावन्ति माल्योपेता: सहस्रश: ॥ ॥२-९१-६१॥
Nṛtyanti sma hasanti sma gāyanti sma ca sainikāḥ । Samantāt paridhāvanti mālyopetāḥ sahasraśaḥ ॥ ॥2-91-61॥
Translation
The soldiers danced, laughed, and sang; wearing garlands, thousands of them ran around in all directions.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे हजारों सैनिक नाच रहे थे, हंस रहे थे, गा रहे थे और गले में मालाएं पहने हुए इधर-उधर दौड़ रहे थे।
English Commentary
A scene of chaotic jubilation. The verbs—dancing, laughing, singing—depict pure, unadulterated joy. The image of soldiers "running around in all directions" (samantat paribhavanti) suggests a breakdown of order and a return to childlike playfulness. Adorned with garlands, the grim atmosphere of a military march is replaced by a carnival spirit. The repetition of sma (used to indicate past continuous habit/action) emphasizes that this went on for a long time.

यह श्लोक उत्सव के उन्माद का चित्रण है। क्रियाओं की शृंखला—नाचना, हंसना, गाना और दौड़ना—यह बताती है कि वे आनंद के अतिरेक में थे। 'समन्तात् परिधावन्ति' (चारों ओर दौड़ना) यह दर्शाता है कि उनका व्यवहार बच्चों जैसा चंचल और उद्देश्यहीन हो गया था। गले में मालाएं पहने हुए वे सैनिक युद्ध की गंभीरता को पूरी तरह भूल चुके थे। वाल्मीकि जी ने यहाँ समूह मनोविज्ञान (mob psychology) का सुंदर वर्णन किया है जब वह सुख में डूबा हो।
