Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
आञ्जनी: कङ्कतान् कूर्चान् शस्त्राणि च धनूंषि च ।
मर्मत्राणानि चित्राणि शयनान्यासनानि च ॥२-९१-७६॥
Āñjanīḥ kaṅkatān kūrcān śastrāṇi ca dhanūṃṣi ca । Marmatrāṇāni citrāṇi śayanānyāsanāni ca ॥2-91-76॥
Translation
In that wondrous hospitality, they found collyrium boxes, combs, brushes, various weapons, bows, unique armor, beds, and seats.

उस अद्भुत सत्कार में उन्हें काजल की डिबियाँ, कंघियाँ, कूचियाँ (ब्रश), विभिन्न प्रकार के शस्त्र, धनुष, विचित्र कवच (बख्तर), शैयाएँ (बिस्तर) और आसन भी प्राप्त हुए।
English Commentary
Sage Bharadwaja’s hospitality was comprehensive, extending far beyond mere sustenance. This verse highlights the Sage's attention to detail regarding the soldiers' personal needs and military readiness. By providing toiletries like collyrium boxes and combs, alongside essential military gear like weapons and armor (marmatrāṇāni), the Sage ensured the army was refreshed not just physically but also in terms of equipment and grooming. It underscores the power of the Rishi's tapas (ascetic power) to conjure material objects that catered to both the luxury and the utility required by a royal army, restoring their dignity after a hard journey.

महर्षि भरद्वाज का आतिथ्य केवल भोजन तक सीमित नहीं था। यह श्लोक दर्शाता है कि उन्होंने भरत की सेना की हर छोटी-बड़ी आवश्यकता का ध्यान रखा। एक थके हुए सैनिक को न केवल विश्राम और भोजन की, अपितु अपने साजो-सामान के रखरखाव और व्यक्तिगत प्रसाधन की भी आवश्यकता होती है। 'आञ्जनी:' (काजल दानी) और 'कङ्कतान्' (कंघियाँ) जैसे प्रसाधन सामग्री का उल्लेख यह सिद्ध करता है कि ऋषि का तपोबल इतना सूक्ष्म था कि वह विलासिता और दैनिक उपयोग की वस्तुओं को भी प्रकट कर सकता था। साथ ही, क्षत्रियों के लिए शस्त्र और कवच उपलब्ध कराकर उन्होंने सेना के मनोबल और भौतिक शक्ति का पुनरुद्धार किया।
