उत्तरं पार्श्वमासाद्य तस्य मन्दाकिनी नदी ।
पुष्ऺिपतद्रुमसञ्छन्ना रम्यपुष्पितकानना ॥२-९२-११॥
Uttaraṃ pārśvamāsādya tasya mandākinī nadī । Puṣpitadrumasañchannā ramyapuṣpitakānanā ॥2-92-11॥
Translation
Reaching the northern side of that mountain flows the Mandakini river, covered by blossoming trees and bordered by delightful flowering groves.

उस पर्वत के उत्तरी भाग (पार्श्व) के पास मन्दाकिनी नदी बहती है, जो फूले हुए वृक्षों से ढकी हुई है और जिसके आस-पास का वन फूलों से सुशोभित है।
English Commentary
The Sage offers a geographical landmark to guide Bharata: the river Mandakini flows on the northern flank (uttaraṃ pārśvam) of Chitrakoot. The riverbanks are described as being canopied by blossoming trees (puṣpitadrumasañchannā). This scenic detail serves as a navigational aid for Bharata and also sets the mood of the location—serene, blooming, and auspicious, contrasting with the political turmoil in Ayodhya.

ऋषि अब लैंडमार्क (Landmark) बता रहे हैं। चित्रकूट के 'उत्तरं पार्श्वम्' (उत्तरी दिशा/बगल) में मन्दाकिनी नदी है। नदी के तट 'पुष्पितद्रुमसञ्छन्ना' (फूले हुए पेड़ों से आच्छादित) हैं। यह वर्णन इसलिए महत्वपूर्ण है ताकि भरत उस स्थान को आसानी से पहचान सकें। मन्दाकिनी का यह वर्णन राम के वनवास के प्राकृतिक सौंदर्य को रेखांकित करता है, जिसे आगे चलकर राम स्वयं सीता को दिखाते हैं।
