Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
वेपमाना कृशा ऺदीना सह देव्या सुमित्रया ।
कौसल्या तत्र जग्राह कराभ्यां चरणौ मुने: ॥२-९२-१५॥
Vepamānā kṛśā dīnā saha devyā sumitrayā । Kausalyā tatra jagrāha karābhyāṃ caraṇau muneḥ ॥2-92-15॥
Translation
Trembling, emaciated, and looking miserable, Kausalya, along with Queen Sumitra, grasped the feet of the Sage with both hands there.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वहाँ काँपती हुई, दुर्बल और दीन (दिखने वाली) कौसल्या ने देवी सुमित्रा के साथ मिलकर मुनि के दोनों चरणों को अपने दोनों हाथों से पकड़ लिया।
English Commentary
This verse paints a heartbreaking picture of Queen Kausalya. Grief has physically transformed her—she is kṛśā (emaciated), dīnā (miserable/wretched), and vepamānā (trembling). Her action of grasping the Sage's feet with both hands indicates immense desperation and supplication. Accompanied by Sumitra, who shares her sorrow, Kausalya appears not as a queen but as a shattered mother seeking solace and the path to her son.

यह श्लोक कौसल्या की दयनीय अवस्था का मार्मिक चित्रण है। पुत्र-वियोग ने उन्हें 'कृशा' (दुबला) और 'दीना' (दीन-हीन) बना दिया है। 'वेपमाना' (काँपती हुई) शब्द उनकी शारीरिक कमजोरी और भावनात्मक अस्थिरता को दर्शाता है। वे राजमाता होते हुए भी एक साधारण दुखी माँ की तरह मुनि के चरणों में गिर पड़ती हैं। सुमित्रा का साथ होना यह दिखाता है कि दुःख की इस घड़ी में वे दोनों एक-दूसरे का सहारा बनी हुई हैं।
